Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
We This is the FAQ for the coordinated examinations (such as Full [Total] Body Scan). We are looking forward to helping you.
Do I really want to know?
That is something that each person must know for himself. When the result is negative the client is most likely given treatment. If a serious illness is detected it also has a psychological effect. Findings like this can be difficult to accept and cope with. With or without preventive examination, serious illnesses can occur at some stage or another. The golden rule for most illnesses is: the sooner it is detected the better. It is then that the chance of healing or stabilization is at its best. It is also possible that something is found that is incurable or barely curable. The chance is proportionately greater that the illness that is (possibly) discovered is still very responsive to treatment. Yet, preventive examination is well worth thinking about. 100% certainty cannot be given to you by anybody. Good care and guidance can.
How long will the examination take?
It depends on the extent of the examination program. For the Full (Total) Body Scan you should plan about 3-4 hours (incl. the initial anamnestic talk with the doctor), the final talk will take another ca. 30 min. For an extensive program, examinations might last until 2:00 PM on the first day and on the second day another 2-3 hours. As soon as you have settled for your program, we will supply you with this information.
Does the public Austrian Health Insurance cover the costs for the examinations?
No, unfortunately not.
I have problems with claustrophobia. How narrow is the tube of the MRI device?
In general people with claustrophobia only have problems in a closed MRI device. In this case, we would plan the examination in an open MRI-device. Please, do not hesitate to tell us while making your appointment.
What is a polyp?
A polyp is a growth of excess of tissue that can be malign (bad-natured) or benign (good-natured). A determination can only be made after the removal and laboratory analysis. Polyps can occur in the paranasal sinuses, the stomach, the colon and with women in the uterus. Especially colon cancer polyps have the potential for preventive measures: Over a couple of years polyps can become malign and develop into cancer. This is the reason why a polyp will get removed during the examination (colonoscopy) and the sample analyzed in a special laboratory.
